Ameresco is seeking a Director of Federal Safety to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of EHS programs for Ameresco's federal projects, including military installations and DoD energy resilience projects. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations and contractual obligations, providing proactive safety leadership and fostering a culture of safety excellence. Responsibilities: Develop and implement a comprehensive, risk-based safety strategy for the Federal Business Unit, aligned with Ameresco's corporate EHS standards and client safety protocols. Serve as the lead advisor on all health, safety, and environmental compliance matters for Ameresco's federal projects nationwide. Stay updated on emerging federal safety regulations to ensure alignment with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and other contract-specific compliance requirements. Manage thorough safety audits and inspections at Ameresco's federal project sites, documenting findings and ensuring corrective actions. Perform risk assessments at new and existing projects to identify potential hazards and recommend mitigation measures. Ensure compliance with safety certifications and audit deliverables as required by contracts. Oversee the reporting and investigation of all incidents, near-misses, and occupational health concerns across federal sites. Lead root cause analyses and verify the implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Promote a learning culture through post-incident reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions. Ensure federal project personnel and subcontractors receive proper and timely safety training, including site-specific onboarding and specialized compliance courses. Monitor and track training completion and recertification schedules. Conduct quarterly safety meetings to address emerging safety issues and project-specific risks Become the primary point of contact for health and safety requirements and activities for the federal business unit. Foster and maintain a positive safety culture for the project personnel. Conduct quarterly safety meetings for Project Staff; Perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degrees preferred. Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in construction or energy-related safety management, with at least 5 years supporting federal clients. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent. OSHA 30 or OSHA 510/500; EM 385-1-1 training. First Aid/CPR Instructor, HAZWOPER (40-Hr), and Federal Contractor Safety Programs. Additional Qualifications: Deep knowledge of federal safety regulations (OSHA, EM 385-1-1, NFPA, USACE, DoD and DOE standards). Experience managing safety across geographically dispersed construction and O&M projects. Proficient with Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, especially in high-stakes or government contracting environments. Ability to travel up to 75% of the time. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders from site supervisors to senior federal partners.
