Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Underground Utility Construction

Location: Sacramento, CA
Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Salary: $175,000 – $250,000 per year (DOE) + Bonus Potential

Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the business and driving the company’s financial strategy and planning. As a key member of the executive team, the CFO will provide strategic guidance and leadership for accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and risk management for a construction company focused on underground utility services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct financial strategy, planning, and forecasts.
  • Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue tracking.
  • Manage accounting, HR/Payroll and finance teams.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, labor laws, and contract requirements.
  • Monitor cash flow, bonding, insurance, legal matters and financial risk.
  • Provide reports and analysis to ownership and key stakeholders.
  • Support operations with cost control, budgeting, and forecasting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or CPA preferred)
  • 8–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in construction or underground utilities
  • Strong knowledge of construction financials, project accounting, cost control, and contract management
  • Familiarity with construction-specific software such as Vista by Viewpoint, HCSS, Insight Software
  • Proven experience managing teams, streamlining financial systems, and supporting field operations
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
